It was interesting to see the reasons education took place. For example it was a means to teach men in order for them to study religion. It eventually evolved and it was made to fit the style of the factories during the industrial revolution. I can see how it was made fit students into categories and measure their progress in the same ways factory workers productivity was measured. It is also clear to see how so many groups were excluded from the educational system. Women, minorities, and the socio-economically disadvantaged. It was neat to see the changes that occurred to be highlighted. By going through this exercise, it is glaringly evident that we are again at a point where educational change is necessary. I can’t help but look at how many of our ways are stuck in the relics of the past. I am excited to use today's background info as a springboard for future discussion regarding educational revolution. I am looking forward to the opinions others have. I am also a little scared to have these discussions because as always, change is hard.

School, ugh, what is it good for, absolutely everything. Sorry, I changed the lyrics to this classic rock song, but it felt right. School is more than just teaching kids how much you know about a certain subject. Yes, we are in the profession of creating curriculum based lesson plans to give kids knowledge about what we are instructors in. It is so much more than that though. If you are simply delivering curriculum, you are doing less than half of the job to truly teach our youth. School is also a place where our kids learn to be good human beings. They learn how to socialize with and expose themselves to as many different cultures as possible. They learn how to learn if that makes any sense. Education is not just regurgitation of information. It's a journey of how to discover the answers using the tools around them. Including their peers in a collaboration process. Students all bring their different emotional backpacks, and we as educators must remember to help these impressionable kids navigate those different emotions in a constructive way. We are role models of a world that we would like to see for our kids' futures
